Get well soon, Jamie!
Quote from Steve on June 13, 2024, 6:47 pmThe SAPC Forum went alarmingly quiet recently when co-founder Jamie Smith stopped posting. After a few days I began to worry about Jamie, particularly after I did not receive his Sunday reading. I tried emailing him but received no reply. Fearing the worst I searched for his phone number and found it by using the Stockport STD code as a search field in my email in-basket. When I phoned it remained unanswered. The answering service told me that his mailbox was full. I knew that Nomvula, his partner, was in South Africa and may not be back yet. However, she called me within minutes and told me that Jamie was in hospital after collapsing at home.
Jamie was taken ill last week with excruciating stomach pains and Nomvula, a nurse, had him rushed into hospital. He is still in hospital - but improving. Stephen Parkin, the Zoom host of the Stockport Philatelic Society visited Jamie yesterday afternoon and they had a good time chatting and laughing together. Apparently, Jamie was in good spirits and not in pain any more. Whilst they determine the source of the blood clots that caused his pain, he is expected to remain in hospital for a few more days. I don't expect him to be posting again any time soon. However, with Jamie you never know. He has an incorrigible old school, do-or-die spirit that lies at the heart of his philatelic interests. So yes, do not be surprised if he posts sooner rather than later.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Jamie and many more happy, healthy years enjoying your hobby, posting on the SAPC, as well as giving Zoom meeting displays to the hundreds, maybe thousands, of philatelic society members worldwide who have witnessed and enjoyed your enthusiasm and knowledge about your particular collecting fields since the Covid outbreak. Get well soon. Our hobby needs you back in the saddle!
