As this is dated 22 8 35, it cannot be a WW1 cover. The datestamp is a 'LUGPOS' airmail canceller first see in 1934. It is possible that a British officer in the KAR was visiting SWA at this time and had taken along some of his regimental stationery to save money. Kenya has areas of desert, as SA Troops would learn in WW2. It would make more sense and save money to train Black African askaris in desert warfare in Kenya than transport them to SWA where in all likelihood there would be a storm of racist political objections.

Quote from Jamie Smith on October 2, 2024, 3:11 pmSteve thanks for this one. I was just fishing for anyinformation. I think it was an officer, probably visiting friends or family who just happened to be tight (him not his friends) and had picked up some stationery in the mess in E.A. and used it as he went along.
But the item has created interest and has brought a few ants out of the woodwork!
