New South African Collectors' Website

SACS (South African Collectors' Society) is a British philatelic society founded in 1948. It has members worldwide including the South Africa, the USA and the European Union.

SACS recently launched a new website to replace its a long-serving old HTML site. Unusually, perhaps, SACS retained the old site as a Legacy Website within the new one, both as a tribute to the original developer, Otto Peetoom, and also to preserve his wonderful philatelic content 'as is'. The new website has already resulted in 10% growth in membership and a successful on-line auction.

SACS' first on-line auction since the launch of our new website closed with on Saturday 5th October. The most exciting item was the last, Lot 100, a 1973 RSA R1 Strelitzia strip of three vertical top value stamps with the orange largely missing on the middle and completely missing on the bottom stamp. (See attached.) The strip is one of the most dramatic RSA examples of missing colour. The half control arrow adds to its scarcity. Not seen offered for many years this fine unmounted mint example was sold to a British dealer for GBP £3,200. On the day it was sold this converted to roughly ZAR R73,000 or USD $4200.
