The cover shown below had me puzzled. It is addressed to Matabeleland and returned with a manuscript PO Box Cape Town. In Cape Town the box number was scratched out and an the explanatory mark  NOT KNOWN was applied, as well as a triangular inspectors mark.

Did the sender get the address wrong as he wrote Geelong Gold Fields/Gwanda? To my knowledge the mines were located in Victoria in Australia. 

Gwanda is now a  a town in Zimbabwe and the capital of the province of Matabeleland South, one of the ten administrative provinces in the country. It is also the district capital of Gwanda District, one of the seven administrative districts in the province.
