Post Card, sent DUIVELSKLOOF 18.NOV.1913 TRANSVAAL, to Magdenburg Germany. Post office opened as PA 1.1.1905, PO 15.3.1910, renamed DUIWELSKloof in 1953. Duiwelskloof was renamed Modjadjiskloof on June 14, 2004.Post office still open today.
Post Card written 19.9.13, most likely on the Spitzrand farm.
Village at the foot of the Drakensberg, in the magisterial district of Letabe, 64 km by rail southwest of Soekmekaar and 24 km north of Tzaneen. The railway stop at this site was investigated nearby, but was later renamed Duiwelskloof. The origin of the name Duiwelskloof has put forward several theories, one of which is that the early transport drivers had so much trouble traversing the gorge with their heavily loaded wagons during the rainy season that they named it the Duivelskloof.
