Moddergat

I'm writing an article about postmarks, with the same name in South Africa and the Netherlands.
I have found a postmark Moddergat in South Africa, We have a same village in Nederland.
Moddergat , I found the follow information at Putzel:
Post office opened 1.1.1920, closed 3.3.1947.
Opened again for 1950, and closed 7.7.1952. The main post office was Jansenville.
Jansenville is a town in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
Now my question, who can tell me more about the place Moddergat,
where is it and maybe someone has a map of the area.
When my article is ready, I will show it to you in this forum.

Hi Albert,

Despite South Africa  being thought of as sunny and therefore dry, the Dutch / Afrikaans prefix 'Modder' (Mud) is found in many forms - Moddergat, Modderdam, Modderfontein, Modderpoort, Modder River, Modderdrift, Modderspruit, etc.

The Moddergat you refer to is as you say in the Eastern Cape. You have the only postmark that Putzel was able to identify as used there.  As Moddergat is farm, I guess that the PO was on this farm. It is situated north of Glandale and west of Draaihoek.  There is an online map if you search on "Moddergat Eastern Cape". I was unable find a link. Sorry, but that is all I know.  I look forward to seeing your material on the SAPC site when it is ready.
