NATAL -"Officially sealed cover in Post Office" cachet
Quote from Kloof on August 19, 2021, 8:35 pmRecently came across on the reverse of a Verulam Natal 1898 cover to USA a cachet of a printed form sealing the cover as illustrated below.
It is a box bearing a crown and the words OFFICIALLY SEALED IN THE (Verulam) POST OFFICE, NATAL.
It suggests the original print was 10.000, so I am surprised not to have seen one over all the years.
Would appreciate any comments, especially as" how often seen"
Thanks

I am not a Natal collector but I have viewed a fair amount of Natal material at stamp fairs, (now some two years ago). I cannot say that I have ever seen anything like this before. It is simple but wonderful and shows that postal history is not exclusively confined to stamps and postmarks on the front of covers. I would guess that to a late Victorian Natal collector, (as well as many others), this is a delightful and desirable item. Thanks for sharing it!
